New use for spare change!

10 Jul

This week I’ve found a new use for some of our spare change. You may remember me talking about our spare change jar in this post. Well last week I was short on cash when I was getting ready to go to the farmers market so I decided to see what I could find in our change jar. Four dollars in quarters and I was all set for the farmers market! So this week, I figured I would get myself prepared and I poured out our change jar and took just the quarters and put them in a zip lock bag. I’m going to leave this in my car as my farmers market money! All the rest of the change went back into the jar for other things in the future but a handful of quarters and I’m all set for some fresh produce!

Farmers Market – the goods =)

This is my bag of goodies that I picked up at this weeks Farmers Market! Just wanted to share since last week I didn’t post a picture. Those are little tiny eggplant in the back in case you can’t see what they are. I’m looking forward to cooking with these this coming weekend! =)

Tuesday Tips & Tricks: Shop local

28 Jun

Today’s tip is to shop local for your produce! Last weekend I went to our local farmers market where I was able to find chives, onions, garlic, peppers, beets, local plants (tomatoes, peppers, several herbs) and I’m sure I’m forgetting a few. Our local farmers market is twice a week, Tuesday evenings and every Saturday morning!

Supporting local farmers is great, and it’s also pretty friendly on your wallet. I like to know where my food is coming from, and I’ve also heard that it’s great to eat local foods to help with allergies. Last week I was late in getting to the market so I heard from friends that things went quickly. Since we live in such a small town, our farmers market isn’t that big and things go fast. I’m going to get there on time this week and I’ll be sure to share what I come home with!
